Other Activities

The normal school day concludes for infants at 1pm and at 2pm for the rest of the school.  The Parents’ Association organise different activities after school.  All parents helping with these activities must be Garda vetted.  After-school activities are organised based on interest.

Religion – all classes

Religion classes for Roman Catholic pupils are organised on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.  Children prepare for Holy Communion and Confirmation during this time.

French - 3rd to 6th classes

An introduction to French is also available on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.  This enables pupils to try out a foreign language at primary school.  The emphasis is on the spoken language and enjoyment.

This takes place in term 1 with individual classes getting 30 minutes of coaching from a qualified coach.  The pupils from Junior infants to 6th class enjoy participating in these classes.

All pupils attend swimming in the Swan Leisure Centre, Rathmines as an integral part of the physical education curriculum.  The children travel to and from the pool by private bus and parents are requested to help with supervision.  Each group attends for a block of 6 lessons.

Hockey is played in the High School, Rathgar.  Pupils from 3rd to 6th class are walked to the pitches where they receive coaching every Friday afternoon.  Matches are arranged with other schools.

Shin guards and gum shields are essential. Parents help with supervision.

Tennis – 1st – 6th classes

Tennis lessons are organised in Rathgar Tennis Club.  These classes occur during the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms but are suspended for the Winter months.  Coaches are employed to teach the children but parents must accompany them to and from the venue.

Athletics – 3rd – 6th classes

The pupils attend Rathfarnham Castle on Friday afternoons during our summer term).  This culminates in attendance in Santry Stadium at Cumann na mBunscol where they compete against other schools.

Congratulations and well done to all the pupils who took part in the track events at Santry this year. It was a remarkable achievement to bring home many medals and the cup for the girls relay!

See the official photos here -  you will find them under 2014 Athletics Day 2.
