Thank you all..

Rathgar National School

I would like to thank the Board of Management, Staff, parents and pupils for the gift of these beautiful flowers which I received last week. My recovery post ear operation is slow but getting there!

Spelling Bee 2016

Rathgar National School

Well done to Coco O'Donnell who represented Rathgar National School in the Easons Spelling Bee competition. The Dublin Regional Final took place in Moran's Red Cow Hotel on Thursday 21st April. Coco managed to get to the 4th round. This is a respectable result and we look forward to next year already!

Flag Presentation

Rathgar National School

On Friday 20th November we received the Irish National Flag and a copy of the Proclamation as part of the 1916 Commemoration celebrations. Two members of the Army Air Corps presented us with the flag and Proclamation. We learned about our national flag and the proclamation. It was an enjoyable morning of poetry, song and dance...and cake afterwards!

Today we held a Skipathon in school in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation. Thankfully the rain stayed away and all children participated fully in the skipping fun! Well done everyone.

Peace Proms Concert

Rathgar National School

What an amazing night we had at the Peace Proms concert. After months of learning songs and choreography, it was finally showtime at the RDS. It was such an experience performing with a full orchestra and the whole event was organised very well.  We look forward to taking part in this again in future years.

November already..

Rathgar National School

Term 1 is certainly marching ahead at a vigorous pace. Half term is over and the cold days of November are upon us. As the front yard was resurfaced over the summer, the benches had to be removed. These have now been varnished and replaced again.  We are hard at work planting spring bulbs which will provide a splash of colour next term. As you are aware, the school was successful in securing funding under the Summer Works scheme to upgrade our toilet facilities. The Board of Management are in the final stages of putting together a plan which should greatly improve the provision of toilets for children in the school. This will be discussed at the Annual General Meeting.

Some items to note during this term:

1.Trip to Airfield- Tuesday 11th (3rd-6th) Friday 14th (JI-2nd)

2. Annual General Meeting- Monday 17th

3. School Photos- Tuesday 18th, Wednesday 19th

4. Visit by Rev Peter Murray, President of the Methodist Church in Ireland-Tuesday 18th

5. Parent Teacher Meetings-From Thursday 27th(Times to follow)

6. School Carol Service-December 17th, 7pm

Happy Roald Dahl Day everyone..probably one of the best writers for children (and adults!) of all time. Grab one of his books and enter a world of pure imagination..

Hello and Welcome!

Rathgar National School

It's the time of year when some of you may be undertaking a good spring clean around your house. Well thinking along the same lines of thought, our school website has had a "spring face lift," a version 2.0 if you will. I'm sure you'll agree it looks more refreshing, vibrant and more user friendly.

The website still retains its' original address and will remain as a useful port of call for information, a digital newsletter which will be updated regularly detailing all that goes on in Rathgar National School. This, the first Principal's Blog will be my own page to let you know what is happening now and in the future weeks, as well as some musings and thoughts straight from my desk to you. The staff and I are excited for this relaunch and I must extend a word of gratitude to Jonny Lindsay for putting together our website and helping us to get version 2.0 up and running.

A formal launch will take place at a later stage which you will be notified of.

Items to note this month are:

1. Swimming - continues with 1st-3rd classes

2. World Book Day - 6th March

3. French classes - After school  Wed/Thurs

4. Tennis - After school Wed

5. Visit from the local Vet

6. Multi-coloured Macarena - 14th March

7. Teaching Practice - Begins 19th March for 3 weeks

Until the next blog I will leave you with a quote from Confucius:  "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."  I think this is apt as the new website begins its' life online!

Now, back to learning the steps for the Macarena...
